Tips to meet people abroad

There are times when you have to travel solo to a different place and you want to talk to people. What could you do to meet new people abroad? Isn’t it a difficult task to approach strangers? In this post I’ll share some tips to make friends abroad.

Let’s be honest: We are social creatures and we love spending time together. If you felt lonely with the aim of meeting new people, what could you do? Here you can find my tips:

1. Stay in a hostel dormitory

Hostels with 6-bed or 8-bed dormitories are quite popular and a good way to save money. But you can kill two birds with one stone and become friends with your roommates. Hostel customers are probably in the same situation as you: Travelling on a tight budget with the aim of meeting new cultures and people. If you introduce yourself to your roommate, you are likely to have an interesting conversation about your home country and different recommended destinations to visit. I remember staying at a hostel in Belgium, and a couple from Venezuela recommended that I go to Antwerp. I will never forget changing my planned route to visit that city and be delighted by its aesthetics.

2. Have a lesson in a language school

If you stay for a couple of days in a city, you have the opportunity to enrol in a class for your favourite language. Language schools are full of foreign citizens eager to learn a second language and meet new people. I totally recommend doing this, at least for a week. It is a good opportunity to make friends and learn a second language.

3. Do a free walking tour

Most of the cities have guided tours where you visit the most important corners on foot. In these activities, citizens from all parts of the world join together to discover a city. Why don’t you grab this opportunity to approach people?

4. Join a pub-crawling tour

The icing on the cake in the world of tours are pub crawling. They usually cost a small amount of money and you visit different pubs to taste different drinks. Here you’ll be partying and there are no excuses. What is better to meet people than having a beer with foreigners?

5. Go to a regional party

There are times when you can be lucky enough to have a regional party nearby. It could be a festival or a celebration of a special day. These days people are happier and more open minded to meet new people. Why not have fun in a foreign party and meet new people?

Conclusion

With these tips I would like to encourage you to meet new people abroad. The advantages are uncountable and good opportunities are around the corner. I think it is high time you grabbed the bull by the horns and reaped the benefits of being a social animal.
